BB creams coverBefore I became a mum I loved my morning routine. Every day my skin would be prepped and primed. My eye-liner would be flicked and my blusher would be blended. I’m not saying I rocked up to work looking like Manchester’s answer to Kate Moss, but I felt pretty good. My morning routine was a gift to myself. It helped me feel relaxed, confident and ready to face the day.

Oh how things have changed, two months ago I gave birth to my beautiful daughter. Bye bye morning routine, hello snatched sleep and exploding nappies. Looking and feeling good are still important to me but naturally my priorities have evolved. In the mornings I’d much rather be spending precious time with my daughter than precision applying my make-up.

Bring on one of my favourite beauty products of all time: the BB cream!

Blemish or Beauty Balm creams are multifunctional little darlings, a Godsend for busy mums. They moisturise, provide coverage to even out the skin tone, include SPF protection (sooo important when it comes to looking after your complexion) and they’re jam packed with hard working ingredients that your skin will just love. If the demands of being a mum mean that you’re struggling to find the time for your own morning routine but you’d still like to give your skin a boost, you’ve got to try a BB cream. They take away the need to use a moisturiser, primer and foundation and give you a dewy healthy glow, helping you to look clear skinned and rested.

I’ve tried and tested the best BB creams on the UK market to suit a range of skin types whatever your budget. Here are my top 8:

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35, £27.

Smashbox

Smashbox’s products are so good they could easily become an addiction. Their BB cream provides a matte-ish coverage making it ideal for oily skins. They also score mega bonus points for having a great spectrum of colours making this cream a favourite with ladies and gents who have darker skin tones.

Erborian BB creme light 5 in 1 SPF 25, £35.

EborianFantastic high end cream from South Korea the mother land of BB creams.  In my opinion this cream is worth every penny. The delicate shade offers great coverage for medium to very pale complexions.  Best suited for sensitive and combination to dry skin this little beauty of a cream gives you a baby fresh finish.

Garnier Miracle Skin Protector Daily all in one BB cream, £6.66 (normally £9.99).

GarnierA best selling BB cream that offers great value for money. It evens the skin tone and provides moisture and a sheen finish without being too greasy. Suitable for most skin types.

Dr Jart Premium Beauty Balm SPF 40, £24.

Dr JartAn a-mazing BB cream that flew off the shelves in the UK when it was released. Perfect for dryer more mature skin.  It’s packed full of peptides and has a high SPF. The rich formula leaves the skin looking bright and dewy. A favourite with beauty bloggers.

Estee Lauder BB Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Creme, SPF 35, £34.

EsteeThis baby is an award winning cream! If you have spot prone skin this BB cream is worth investing in. It’s oil free and provides enough coverage to hide minor blemishes and scars. The finish is a beautiful almost sun kissed glow that lasts all day.

Maybelline Dream Fresh Beauty Balm, £7.99.

MaybellineMaybelline have created a great product for a tiny price.  This cream provides a soft focus type coverage without feeling or looking heavy.  Bonus points too for a cracking range of shades. Great for normal to dry skins.

MAC Prep +Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact, SPF 30 £24.

MACMAC never fails to impress me. Their products stay put from morning until night and, like me, they love a high SPF. This innovative BB compact is no exception. A little of the protective solid cream goes a long way and you can really layer it making it a good BB cream if you prefer more coverage.

Boots 17 Magic Blemish Balm, £6.99.

No 17Not just for teenagers I promise! This BB cream is a little gem. It’s level of moisture makes it suited for normal to dry skin and it seems to melt pores and fine lines. At such a teeny price it’s worth a try.

  1. I can vouch for Garnier – using it right now, it’s very good for the price, goes a long way too. It’s definitely a sheer / dewy one which I like. Also I have bought the Estee Lauder one in the past, which is great but TBH there’s not much in it – go for the cheaper Garnier one I say, especially as it’s reduced right now at Boots! Think I’ll try the Dr Jart one next as a treat! X

  2. Thanks Geri! Up to now BB meant bl**dy baffling! No need to waste time trying to read tiny print explaining the benefits, gonna try your recommendations. Look forward to your next post 🙂
